Loads on the Knee Joint Ligaments during Stair Climbing
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background. Stair climbing is often performed by people in daily life and requires considerable energy muscle effort. This task has been widely described the literature, but role of knee joint ligaments not sufficiently investigated. could be relevant for planning ligament reconstruction surgery, providing suggestions to subjects with partial injuries, identifying compensatory strategies reducing loads. Methods. A dynamic musculoskeletal model was used analyse relationship between loads forces during stair climbing. Results. The most loaded were posterior cruciate deep fibres medial collateral ligament, particularly mid-swing phase, where maximally flexed hamstring muscles contracted. anterior recruited stance phase compensate anteriorly-directed force applied tibia vasti muscles; stabilized swing phase. tibiofemoral contact force, resulting from all external internal knee, good agreement data provided literature. Conclusions. study represents a forward step knowledge climbing, which useful informed recommendations injuries.

Knee Joint Loads and Surrounding Muscle Forces during Stair Ascent in Patients with Total Knee Replacement
Total knee replacement (TKR) is commonly used to correct end-stage knee osteoarthritis. Unfortunately, difficulty with stair climbing often persists and prolongs the challenges of TKR patents. Complete understanding of loading at the knee is of great interest in order to aid patient populations, implant manufacturers, rehabilitation, and future healthcare research. Musculoskeletal modeling and ...
متن کاملKnee and hip kinetics during normal stair climbing.
Understanding joint kinetics during activities of daily living furthers our understanding of the factors involved in joint pathology and the effects of treatment. In this study, we examined hip and knee joint kinetics during stair climbing in 35 young healthy subjects using a subject-specific knee model to estimate bone-on-bone tibiofemoral and patello-femoral joint contact forces. The net knee...
متن کاملMedial knee joint loading during stair ambulation and walking while carrying loads.
Carrying loads while walking or using stairs is a common activity of daily living. Knee osteoarthritis is associated with increased external knee adduction moment (KAM) during walking, so understanding how the additional challenges of stairs and carrying loads impact these moments is of value. Sixteen healthy individuals performed three types of MOTION (walking, stair ascent, stair descent) und...
متن کاملRecruitment of knee joint ligaments.
On the basis of earlier reported data on the in vitro kinematics of passive knee-joint motions of four knee specimens, the length changes of ligament fiber bundles were determined by using the points of insertion on the tibia and femur. The kinematic data and the insertions of the ligaments were obtained by using Roentgenstereophotogrammetry. Different fiber bundles of the anterior and posterio...
متن کاملMechanical loads at the knee joint during deep flexion.
There is a lack of fundamental information on the knee biomechanics in deep flexion beyond 90 degrees. In this study, mechanical loads during activities requiring deep flexion were quantified on normal knees from 19 subjects, and compared with those in walking and stair climbing. The deep flexion activities generate larger net quadriceps moments (6.9-13.5% body weight into height) and net poste...
